Instagram username checker

Instagram doesn't offer outside websites a way to ask whether a username is free. So the checker here gives you the exact link, you open it, and Instagram answers. That's the only answer that counts anyway.

Why we don't check Instagram for you

Meta's terms, which cover Instagram, say you "may not access or collect data from our Products using automated means (without our prior permission)" (Meta Terms of Service, section 3.2). A website that loads Instagram profile pages on its server to tell you "available" or "taken" is doing that, and Instagram can block or mislead such requests without the site noticing. We'd rather send you one link that's always right than show a result that might be stale.

How to check a name in 10 seconds

  1. Type the name on the checker and press Check.
  2. In the "Click-to-check links" box, open the Instagram link. It goes to instagram.com/yourname.
  3. Read what Instagram shows (below).
  4. If it looks free, open the Instagram app and try it in Edit profile or at sign-up. That screen is the final answer.

What Instagram's page tells you

If the name is taken

Look at the account, but plan a fallback rather than waiting for the name to free up. Use the same pattern you'll use everywhere: add what you do (bluefernphoto), your city (bluefernokc) or a short word like "hq." Then run that variant through the checker so your Instagram name matches your other handles and your domain.

If an account is using your registered trademark to pass itself off as you, that's a different problem. Instagram's Help Center has an intellectual property reporting process; search it for "trademark."

Check the rest at the same time

The checker also builds links for Facebook, Threads, TikTok and the others, and checks your domain and the platforms that do have an official lookup. One name, one pass. Check a name.
